1.) With the car OFF, Begin by removing the spark plug wire boot with
the VR6 spark plug puller tool on any one of the six cylinders. If the wire puller is not available, gently
pull off the spark plug wire from the plug.
2.) Take the spark plug socket, along with a reasonable length (9"+) extension, and rachet,
loosen spark plug from cylinder head.
3.) Remove old plug; use either the socket or the plug wire to pull it out of the deep
access channel.
4.) Gap new plug to factory specifications (0.028" gap on all VR6's).
* Recommendation:
after trying multiple brands, strongly encourage using OEM plugs - NGK
BKR-5-EKU.
They are designed for the VR6; other non-OEM plugs can induce misfires, poor performance /
fuel econ.
5.) Re-install new plug by hand-threading it clockwise into the cylinder head.
6.) Once hand-tight, use rachet to tighten a quarter of a turn; around 15 ft/lbs if using
torque wrench.
7.) Re-install spark plug wire onto plug using the VR6 spark plug puller tool.
If tool not available, use of flat-head screwdriver. ** Be careful NOT to ruin the plug wire by
slicing it up with the screwdriver. Make sure to press on the metal casing of the plug wire. **
8.) Repeat steps 1 - 7 to complete the other five cylinders.
9.) Double check all wire connections, and start car; check for misfires / sputtering.
