TTs - Anti-Theft Radio Code

"...We want to hear some music, now!"

When the power to the radio is interrupted or lost, the radio will electronically lock-up to deter theft of the head unit.  The word "SAFE" appears in the frequency displat when the radio is switched on and it will be necessary to enter the anti-theft code to make the radio opperational again.

Before starting procedure, make sure to locate the anti-theft code located on the radio owners manual.  If you cannot locate the manual, call or stop by your local Volkswagen dealership to recieve your anti-theft code.

For the 1993 - 1997 model year head units:
1.) Turn on the radio and press the SEEK and SCAN buttons simultanenously and hold them down until "1000" lights up in the frequency display.
2.) Use the the station buttons 1 to 4 to input the correct anti-theft  code number.  * The first digit of the anti-theft code can only be a 1 or left blank (0). *  Use button 1 to input the first digit, button 2 for the second digit, and so on.
3.)  Once the code has been entered, hold SEEK and SCAN buttons down until the display read "SAFE" once again.  Release the buttons and the radio frequency will be displayed and the radio will be operational.
** Should you inadvertently input the incorrect code number, the word "SAFE" will blink in the display, noting that the code was not valid.  It is possible to repeat the coding procedure once.  If another incorrect code is again entered, the radio will be locked up for approximately one hour.  Leave the radio swtiched on, and after an hour return to enter in correct code.  **
