TTs - Transmission Fluid (020 / Manual)

"Just like the engine oil, but without a filter..."

Many are unfamilar, but like engine oil, transmission oil / fluid should be changed out on a regular mileage interval basis as well.  After time and excessive heat, transmission fluid does brak down and loose its lubication properties.  Old fluid can promote leakage, excesive wear to the gears / synchros, and possible transmission failure.

1.)  Raise and support the vehicle on flat surface.  Vehicle shoud be OFF.

2.)  From underneath the vehicle, locate the transmission on the driver side.  Locate both 17mm allen wrench transmission drain / fill plugs.  The fill plug faces horizontal towards the driver side of the vehicle; the drain plug also faces horizitally toward the driver side as well.

3.)  Loosen both plugs, first remove the fill plug.  ** DO NOT drain the transmission untill the fill plug has been pulled first to ensure you can re-fill the transmission. **  Place drain bucket / pan underneath drain plug, and then remove drain plug.

4.)  Let transmission fluid drain out; if transmission is cold, allow fluid to completely drain untill dripping occurs.

5.)  Re-install drain plug after draining.

6.)  Using a hand-pump or siphon, pour in new transmission fluid into the transmission through the fill plug hole.  * Make sure to fill with Sythetic 75W - 90 GL-4 fluid; no exceptions. *  Fill untill fluid drips out of the filler hole; double check the transmission to make sure its full by using your finger.

7.)  Re-install fill plug once transmission is full.

8.)  Check for leaks / tightness of plugs.

9.)  Lower vehicle.
