TTs - Spark Plug Wires (VR6)

"We need more power Scotty!"

Spark plug wires are one of the most overlooked preventative maintenance items that are not replaced on a mileage basis.  Whether street or track, forced induction or naturally aspirated, your VR6 will benifit from a smoother idle and increased fuel econ from less resistive wires.

1.)  With the car OFF, Begin by removing the spark plug wire boot with the VR6 spark plug puller tool on any one of the six cylinders.  If the wire puller is not available, gently pull off the spark plug wire from the plug.

2.)  Gentley twist and pull up the plug wire from the plastic trim leading to the distributor / ignition coil.

3.)  Remove plug wire from distributor / ignition coil.

4.)  Locate new plug wire of same length and apply some dielectric grease to the distributor / ignition coil terminal.

5.)  Push on new plug wire to distributor / ignition coil.  Route the plug wire on the plastic trim to the appropriate cylinder.  * If purchased increased diameter plug wires, you may have to file down the plastic tabs on the trim so that the new wires fit in.  Not filing them down can split the insulation open on the wires when installing. *

6.)  Attach plug wire onto plug using the VR6 spark plug puller tool.  If tool not available, use of flat-head screwdriver.  ** Be careful NOT to ruin the plug wire by slicing it up with the screwdriver.  Make sure to press on the metal casing of the plug wire. **

7.)  Repeat steps 1 - 6 to complete the other five cylinders.

8.)  Double check all connections.  Start car upon completetion; check for any arching, misfires / sputtering.
